One step closer to equal parenting with new Swedish law

In January, a new parental law came into force in Sweden. The new law introduces a gender-neutral presumption of parenthood. This means that parenthood will be presumed and automatically registered for all married couples. Regardless of your gender, partner, and sexual orientation. In addition, it will be easier for unmarried couples to confirm their parenthood digitally. This is an important step towards equality and equal rights for all.

Below you can get a quick overview of what applies – and more importantly, why it matters.
