Enjoy total freedom = carry your baby in different positions
Baby carriers are understood to be a necessary piece of baby gear for most parent’s. It’s a great way to bond with your child while having your hands free. Some baby carriers even offer the possibility to carry in different positions. Allowing you to do what you want to, at the same time as your baby sees their world from different perspectives.
What are the carrying positions?
When can I start carrying my baby?
Most baby carriers are made for carrying babies from newborn and up to 2-3 years of age. Baby carriers for older babies are often versatile and grows with the baby by offering the possibility to carry in different positions.
Parent facing position: For children under five months
During the baby’s first months, your little one is exploring the world. All the sights and sounds can be overwhelming. That’s why it’s extra important to provide comfort, security and care as a parent. Newborns and babies younger than five months should therefore always be carried facing inwards or in a parent facing position. This way the baby is always able to bond with you, follow your every move and learn about the world around.
Forward facing position: From six months and up
Older babies will actively seek ways to see the world by tossing and turning when carrying. These are clues that they want to be forward facing in the carrier. Meaning they are able to follow whats happening around them. We recommend to not start carrying the baby forward facing before six months old. This is usually when the baby is more steady and and has better control of the head and neck.
Back carrying: From six months and up
Going out hiking with the baby carrier? Back carrying is a good way to get good ergonomic support during those long walks together. The weight is more evenly distributed when carrying in this position - similar to heavy a backpack. It’s safe to back carry when the baby is about six months old and can sit independently.
Hip carrying: From six months and up
Hip carrying is a great way to carry your small one when they are older than six months. It's most suitable for babies that want to move and go up and down, while still being close to you. This way of carrying is also great for parents with back problems. The weight is distributed evenly and there’s little pressure on the back and spine. With a Hip Seat you also get extra support while carrying.
