Carrying positions – Babywearing through every stage
Find the best way to carry your baby, from newborn to toddler
Babywearing gives you the freedom to stay close, hands-free, and active with your baby. As they grow, their needs change — and so can the way you carry them. Explore the different carrying positions and see how Najell’s carriers adapt as your baby grows.
Parent-Facing Carry
When: From birth.
Why: Ideal for bonding and supporting emotional and physical development.
How: Baby is held high on your chest, close enough to kiss, with legs in an M- or frog-position and back in a natural C-curve.
Best for: Newborns and small infants, but this position can be used for as long as you and your baby feel comfortable.
Recommended carriers: All Najell's baby carriers can be used from day one. Choose from Najell Wrap, Najell Easy, Najell Rise, and Najell Original.
Forward-Facing Carry
When: From around 5 months, when your baby has good neck and upper body control.
Why: Let your baby explore the world while staying close.
How: Baby faces outward with legs in an M-position and back supported. Use for shorter periods to avoid overstimulation.
Best for: Curious babies who want to look around.
Recommended carriers: Najell Rise, Najell Original.
Back Carry
When: From 6 months or when your baby sits up independently.
Why: Great for longer walks or when your baby is heavier.
How: Baby is worn high on your back with legs in an M-position and secure support.
Best for: Active parents and toddlers.
Recommended carriers: Najell Easy, Najell Rise, Najell Original.
Hip Seat Carry
When: From 6 months and up.
Why: Easy to pop your baby up and down, ideal for quick carrying moments.
How: Baby sits on your hip with support from the carrier’s waistband and your arm.
Best for: Short carries around the house or out and about.
Recommended carrier: Najell Original.
The M-Position: what it is and why it matters
Getting your baby into the right position is key to safe and comfortable babywearing. The M-position — with knees higher than the bum — supports healthy hip development and keeps your baby feeling snug and secure.
To achieve this, use a gentle pelvic tuck. This helps tilt your baby’s hips forward so the legs naturally lift into the M-shape and the back forms a natural C-curve.
All Najell carriers are designed to make this positioning easy, giving your baby the support they need — and giving you the freedom to move with confidence.

Safe babywearing: what to keep in mind
Always make sure your baby can breathe freely, has clear airways, and is well-supported in the carrier. Keep their face visible and close enough to kiss, with a natural curve in the back and no pressure on their chin or chest.
At Najell, we believe in safe, flexible babywearing. As long as your baby can breathe freely, is supported, and feels content, the best position is the one that works for both of you.
