What should my baby wear for bed underneath a sleeping bag

What should my baby wear for bed underneath a sleeping bag?

What a baby should wear to bed can be a bit of a minefield. What is the temperature of the room? Will it drop in the night? How do I keep them warm in the night? There is a lot to think about, so we have gathered a guideline to help ease your mind and ensure a safe night's sleep for your little one while wearing a sleeping bag.

As a general rule, the warmer the room, the lower the tog should be, and the colder the room, the higher the tog. Below, we have split out the TOG of the sleeping bag and what clothing you should match this to.

0.5 TOG sleeping bag:

  • Over 27 degrees Celsius: Dress your baby in a sleeveless vest.

  • 24-27 degrees Celsius: A vest with short sleeves and short legs may be suitable. Adjust based on anticipated temperature changes during the night.

1 TOG sleeping bag:

  • 21-24 degrees Celsius: A vest with short sleeves should suffice for warmer nights.

  • 18-21 degrees Celsius: Consider dressing your baby in a vest with short sleeves and short legs or a baby grow with feet for cooler temperatures.

2.5 TOG sleeping bag:

  • 15-21 degrees Celsius: These sleeping bags are for cooler temperatures. When it's 18-21 degrees Celsius, dress your baby in a vest with short sleeves or a vest with long arms. For colder nights (15-18 degrees Celsius), a vest and baby grow would be more suitable to keep them warm.

Remember, these are general guidelines, and it's essential to check your baby’s room to ensure it’s not too hot or too cold. Adjust the clothing layers according to your baby's comfort and the specific conditions of the room. Additionally, it's crucial to avoid overdressing or using too many layers that might cause overheating, as this can pose risks to your baby's health.
