Is your breastfeeding baby fussy? It could be your diet
If you are breastfeeding and notice that your baby has become fussier than you'd expect, it might be worth looking at your diet. Often, your baby can be fussy due to something in your diet that's causing your baby to react. The food you eat while breastfeeding can contribute to things like reflux pain, gas and poor digestion in your baby.
Foods that lead to fussiness while breastfeeding
Remember that every baby is different, but here is a list of some common foods that can lead to fussiness:
Chocolate
Coffee
Dairy
Soy
Wheat
Peanuts
Corn
Eggs
Broccoli (mostly raw)
Garlic
Whey
Onions (mostly raw)
Green peppers (mostly raw)
Cabbage (mostly raw)
Citrus
How to recognize the culprit in your diet
Keeping a food diary can help you find the food culprit that's causing your baby's fussiness. You should also try cutting out one food at a time to isolate what's causing problems. Remember that it can take 1-2 weeks until the food completely leaves your system (but if it’s really the thing that’s messing with your baby, you will probably start seeing improvements earlier).
Also consider that your baby could be sensitive to a food that’s not on this list or that the cause of fussiness could be something else - such as things they are in regular contact with like soap or foods they’re eating themselves.
